At Bridge Housing, we use our experience delivering homes to help shape a fairer housing system. By sharing stories and evidence-based solutions, we work in partnership with government, communities and businesses to drive lasting housing reform.

With record investment in social and affordable housing, now is the time to rebalance Australia’s housing supply so more people, and future generations, can have a fair chance at safe, secure, affordable homes.

Our key advocacy achievements

National sustainability recognition

We’re proud leaders in sustainable community housing. At the NSW 2024 Banksia Awards, we won in Placemaking and SME Leadership categories, and were finalists in Circular Economy. In the 2025 National Awards, we took home National Sustainability Award  in the Small to Medium Enterprise Leadership category. This recognition highlights our commitment to environmental leadership in community housing.

Partnerships for homelessness innovation

Working across the housing continuum, we’ve partnered with specialist homelessness service providers, women’s shelters and private sector partners to deliver innovative solutions to people in crisis. From Meanwhile Use projects offering transitional homes in repurposed independent living units to a dedicated supportive housing model, offering a step to independence for women leaving rehab.

Resident advocates

Residents are powerful voices for housing reform and social change. We connect them with media, industry campaigns, research project teams, and speaking events that amplify lived experience and influence decision makers. Because the people who live in social and affordable housing should have a voice in shaping its future.

Federal Election 2025

Our CEO Laurie Leigh led the charge, meeting with members of parliament across the political spectrum in Canberra to talk housing ahead of the 2025 election. Our message was clear: Australia needs long-term, recurring investment in social and affordable housing supply.

Building relationships

To influence systemic change, we build strong networks and connections with decision makers, sharing our knowledge and expertise. We also work with residents, universities and academic partners to make a difference by building the research base, encouraging innovation and inspiring students.

Advocates for change

Our staff and residents are passionate ambassadors for the difference a safe, secure, affordable home makes. We are out and about in our community sharing this knowledge, building our understanding of what works and pushing for change to make our communities better.

727 Supported Temporary Accommodation (TA) has transformed our homelessness service response for people in crisis on the Northern Beaches.

Offering an alternative to the traditional private motel model, 727 provides safe, dignified, self-contained studio apartments. With onsite wrap around support through Mission Australia, clients receive the practical support they need to find stable long-term housing and break the cycle of homelessness.

Since opening in December 2024, 727 has dramatically reduced the average time spent in TA from over 180 days to just 22 days. This is generating significant savings for government, improved community safety, and better long-term outcomes for clients.

727’s impact is both local and systemic, providing immediate relief and pathways to stability for people in crisis, while serving as a scalable model for reform across New South Wales.

“It aligns strongly with the NSW Homelessness Strategy 2025-35, providing a shining example of local, person-centred service delivery underpinned by genuine partnership between Government and the sector, with potential replicability to improve outcomes for clients and community across the state” – Humair Ahmad, Executive Director Programs and Partnerships, Homes NSW

The connection between our role in the housing crisis and the climate crisis is clear. Social and affordable housing residents are the most impacted by the impacts of climate change and the least able to take protective action.

We know that the most impactful thing we can do is retrofit the homes we own and manage, ensuring residents have high quality, energy efficient, thermally comfortable homes.

Our latest Environmental Action Plan builds on the foundations we laid under our first plan, with an ambitious target to retrofit 30% of our homes by 2030. We’ll deliver this through a dedicated retrofit program, co-funded by Bridge, the NSW Government and the federal government, as well as through our ongoing planned maintenance program.

By improving energy performance, we’re cutting emissions, lowering tenant costs and building resilience in social and affordable housing communities.

Bridge Housing acknowledges the Gadigal, Darug, Bidjigal and Gai-mariagal people as the traditional owners of the lands on which we work, and we pay our respects to Elders past and present.
